Many people prefer using gel for shaving. It’s no wonder, as shaving with shaving gel offers several advantages compared to shaving soap or cream.

For many men, shaving gel is easier, more practical, and faster to use, and it is also wonderful for sensitive skin.

This smooth product is easy to dose and can be applied evenly to the skin. Generally, the product remains semi-transparent, making the shave clearer and safer than with foam, for example.

How do I use shaving gel?

The application of shaving gel is incredibly simple and requires no additional utensils like bowls or brushes. This makes the product so practical for travel and whenever you need to be quick.

1. Make sure your skin is clean before you start.

2. Put a nut-sized amount of the gel on your hand. A small amount is really enough; the product is very concentrated.

3. Distribute the gel carefully between your hands or put it into a small container and mix it with a shaving brush. The gel will turn into foam in no time.

4. Now you can distribute the foam evenly over the areas to be shaved until the skin is well covered.

5. Shave as usual, moving your razor carefully—ideally against the direction of hair growth.

After each stroke, rinse your razor with warm, clear water to remove any accumulated foam and small hairs.

6. When you have finished shaving, you can wash the remaining foam off your face with warm water and then apply your usual aftershave treatment.

Why does shaving gel turn into foam?

While shaving creams use foaming agents like butane or isobutane—which are gaseous at room temperature and therefore create foam immediately upon exiting the bottle—shaving gel contains a different mixture of pentanes that only evaporates above 30 degrees, turning from gel into foam only in the warmth of your hand.

However, since these foaming agents are chemical additives, we at Störtebekker have chosen to avoid them.

Our shaving gel does not turn into foam on your hand, but rather becomes a easily spreadable mass.

How long does shaving gel last?

Pay attention to the smell of the shaving gel 12 months after opening the container. If the oils it contains have turned and the product smells rancid, it is better not to use it anymore.

Which shaving gel is suitable for the intimate area?

Our Störtebekker shaving gel is particularly skin-friendly and contains valuable moisturizing and skin-nourishing ingredients such as aloe vera and panthenol to support moisture balance and soothe irritation and redness after shaving. This also makes it suitable for shaving sensitive areas, such as the intimate area.

For a fresh feeling and a perfect start to the day, we have also added some menthol.

You should be a bit careful here when shaving intimate areas—if it feels unpleasant to you, you might want to avoid using it for that purpose.

Our shaving gel has a natural, subtle scent of sandalwood and should be well-tolerated by sensitive skin types.

Another advantage for such delicate areas: the gel remains slightly transparent during use, so you always have a clear view of the area you are shaving.

How do I dispose of empty shaving gel containers properly?

Empty shaving gel containers should be disposed of in the recycling bin (yellow bag). Make sure they are truly empty before putting them in.

If you need to dispose of a full or half-full container, empty the contents into your normal household trash before placing the container in the recycling bin.
