Buying a beard comb - A must-have for beard care

As a beard wearer, you’re surely familiar with this: your hair doesn't lie flat or hangs every which way, doing whatever it wants. If you take your beard care seriously, you surely know it or have at least heard of it—the beard comb. It doesn't just ensure good styling; it offers a whole range of functions, which is why you should absolutely integrate a beard comb into your daily beard care routine. Our beard comb is crafted from high-quality sandalwood and comes in a sophisticated leather case. This makes the beard comb perfectly suited for on-the-go use, such as while traveling, so you aren't just shaping your beard at home. The sandalwood provides sufficient stability during use, is gentle on the skin, and is vegan, as it is a pure natural product.

The pocket beard comb features two rows of teeth—one coarser and one finer—so that every beard wearer gets their money's worth. This allows you to decide which tooth size is right for you depending on your beard length. The finer side is also perfect for shaping individual stray hairs. The tines of the beard comb don't just allow you to style your facial hair; you also efficiently clean your beard with them. Over time, as a beard wearer, dead skin cells, loose hairs, and dirt accumulate in your facial hair, all of which you can remove through regular combing. This primarily promotes beard growth, as no foreign bodies are obstructing it and the skin under the beard is lightly massaged by the combing. It certainly won't make a full beard grow out of nowhere, but it is proven to stimulate growth and solves a range of care and styling problems in everyday life.

Beard comb - Wood or plastic? Why wood is the best choice

Beard combs come in a wide variety of designs. Although they always fulfill the same function, the differences in material are about more than just looks. Common models are made of wood, horn, metal, or plastic. The traditional beard comb has been made of wood for hundreds of years and, alongside your safety razor and brush set, creates a complete, cohesive look. Most people already have a plastic comb and therefore think they can use it for beard care without any issues. However, a plastic comb is much worse for your beard than you might imagine.

The first reason why you shouldn't use a plastic beard comb is the design. You'll notice it the moment you hold a plastic comb in your hand. Because wood is heavier than plastic, you have a better grip when combing, as the handle of a wooden comb is also more robust and wider. Furthermore, the vintage look of the wood matches your other classic shaving utensils perfectly and looks very high-quality in the bathroom.

If you have coarse beard hair, it can happen very quickly that tines break off, as plastic is very fragile. When properly cared for, a wooden beard comb is very robust while remaining very gentle on the beard. A plastic comb is also virtually 100% chemical and can therefore release harmful substances onto your skin. An important aspect is that a plastic beard comb can cause your beard hair to become statically charged. This then has the exact opposite effect of what you are trying to achieve. Your hair stands on end and points in all directions, making it even harder to coax into the desired position.

Beard comb or beard brush - What are the differences?

When you start looking for a new product for your beard care, you will inevitably encounter beard combs and beard brushes. Both are intended to detangle the beard and shape it. Two true lifestyle products that are indispensable when it comes to perfect grooming for a beard wearer. However, beard combs and beard brushes differ by more than just shape and composition. Fundamentally, it can be said that beard combs and beard brushes differ in their application.

The beard brush is primarily used for beard care. Its coarse bristles, for example, are perfect for distributing beard oil evenly throughout the beard. Furthermore, by using a beard brush, you can also stimulate the production of sebum, your body's own natural oil. Thus, you can make your beard beautifully soft and pleasant without any care products at all. A beard comb is used to bring your hair into shape, though it must be said that it is better suited for short beards, with a length of 1-4 months.

The beard comb is better suited as a styling tool. It is particularly helpful when it comes to the stubborn detangling of slightly longer beard hair of 4-5 months and up. Ideally, as a beard wearer, you should treat your beard immediately after washing, as it is still slightly damp and the hair is easier to comb. If you also use a hairdryer for beard care and styling, the beard comb is also excellent for specifically shaping it.

As you can see, there are a few aspects you should consider when choosing between a beard comb and a beard brush, though these mainly relate to their application and the nature of your beard. A beard comb is used more for styling, whereas the beard brush is primarily helpful for your beard care. Which beard comb or beard brush you ultimately choose depends on your preferences and the respective area of use.

Cleaning your beard comb - How to do it successfully

Just as your beard care should be a high priority, it is necessary to clean your beard comb regularly. Since the beard comb is made of real wood, careful and thorough maintenance is all the more crucial so that your beard comb continues to bring joy to you and your beard for a long time. If you follow all the steps, nothing stands in your way of having a perfectly groomed and styled beard. First, ensure that your comb never gets too wet. This can cause the beard comb wood to swell. This can happen quickly if you use it after showering. Accordingly, dry your beard so that it is only damp, not soaking wet. For drying, you can use any kind of towel or simply a paper towel.

Humidity builds up quickly in the bathroom, which is not good for the beard comb either. If it is too hot, however, it can quickly become brittle. Therefore, you should maintain it with oil at regular intervals. Let it soak in overnight and remove all excess oil residue the next day with a paper towel. If you use beard pomade or similar care products, clean it immediately after use. This also applies to simple combing, which can cause skin and beard residue to accumulate in the tines. A slightly damp cloth is sufficient for this.

To clean the beard comb, you should never soak it in water for hours. This will cause it to swell. Rinse it at most with a mild soap, but do not use aggressive detergents, which additionally attack the wood. To ensure the comb is protected from knocks and dirt, you are welcome to store it in the included leather case. This reduces the risk of the tines being damaged, which can lead to hairs being pulled out while combing. If you follow all these tips, nothing stands in the way of a healthy and well-groomed beard!
